Dave Eggers on Writing, Education, Community and World Changing

As a part of the always edifying TED Talk series, author Dave Eggers shares his experiences with the 826 Valencia writing lab, a tutoring center for youth in the Bay Area community which sparked similar programs across the States (don’t forget our friends over in Ireland. Mad props to Roddy Doyle for running the program over there!)

The project simply goes to show the true and undeniable power the written word possesses, and how, if channeled properly, this power can change our communities, which will in turn impact our cities, our country, and ultimately, change the world. One kid, one sentence at a time.

So to all the cynics out there, the two transcendent messages that can be taken here are: that you should never under-estimate the power of words, and moreover, that you should never under-estimate the power of YOUTH.

Peace.
