In light of my post on Esquire’s Short Short Fiction contest (see my previous post), here are two stories 79 word stories from illustrious writers Dave Eggers and Geoff Dyer. Though they are both most dope, I’m sure I can – and therefore all of y’all – can churn out something of the same, if not better calibre.
Remember anybody can write!

The Hustler by Dave Eggers
His father looked like Paul Newman and knew it. His father looked like Paul Newman, knew it, but pretended he didn’t know it. His father, looking like Paul Newman, knowing it but not flaunting it, knew his son did not look like him and thus not like Paul Newman, either. His father was not actually his father, not in that way, but neither of them knew this. But she knew. How could she tell them? She did not know.

High Line by Geoff Dyer
They were walking the High Line together, both the same height, both married. It was a day of sunshine and brilliant cold; they were both wearing sunglasses and coats. The sunglasses played a part in darkening the question of whether this represented the limit of their shared experience, the point at which “both” diverged into “each.” They were not walking arm in arm. It is possible that she was not conscious of this. Even her gloves were interesting.
You could certainly see your expertise in the paintings you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers such as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe. All the time go after your heart.
